SIX Lib Dem parliamentary candidates have left their old
party and joined the Conservatives.
In the early part of 2006, the Lib Dem candidate in this
constituency (Jeff Clarke) followed the earlier move of a local
Lib Dem Councillor and joined the Tories.
More recently Richard Porter, John Barstow, and Tariq Mahmood,
who all stood for parliament as Liberals, have joined David
Cameron’s newly invigorated party.
Mr Mahmood, a physician, said the Tories: “Could make the NHS
better.”

Mr Porter, pictured right, who actually wrote some of the
Liberal manifesto described Ming Campbell as a ‘has been’ and
has put the Lib Dems into ‘reverse gear.’
John Barstow, a union steward, said his former party were
‘bland, formulaic and out of touch with real life.’
The other defections include Adrian Childs in West Suffolk and
Rene Kinsett in Swansea West, plus the former Labour candidate
for Horsham, Rehman Chishti.
The move tips off a great year for the Conservative party, and
shows that we have come a long way in just a short time.
