Geoffrey Watt Conservative Councillor for West Kirby & Thurstaston ward.

Geoffrey Watt is a life-long resident of West Kirby & Thurstaston Ward which includes Caldy, Grange, Newton, Thurstaston and most of West Kirby. He is married to another life-long resident and they have two children attending the local grammar schools.

He has six years experience as an elected member of Wirral Borough Council having represented the old Royden Ward, including Grange & Newton, before his election to serve the new West Kirby & Thurstaston Ward following boundary changes in 2004.

Geoffrey is a Governor of Black Horse Hill Infant School, President of Newton Village Hall and a Past-commodore of Hoylake Sailing Club.

At the town hall he has served on committees dealing with Highways, Housing, Education, Leisure, Personnel, Central Services, Licensing and Planning. He was the inaugural chairman of the West Wirral Area Forum and is the Conservative group’s spokesman on the Council’s Pensions Committee, which oversees the administration and investment of the four billion pound Merseyside Pension Fund.

Geoffrey is keen to protect the special character of our green belt, open spaces, coastline and estuary from unsympathetic and unwanted development. He has written and spoken against the construction of wind farms in our inshore coastal waters. He has campaigned and spoken for local residents against the siting of mobile-phone transmitter masts, both in the green belt and close to peoples’ homes and against high-density back-land development.

Finally, Geoffrey wants a fair share of Council, Police and Fire Authority resources directed to West Wirral and to see the investment attracted by the Open Golf used to enhance and sustain acceptable improvements within the area.
