He is also chairman of the council's West Wirral Community Forum. Previously, he has served on the Planning, Leisure Services, and Environment & Highways committees.

He is a Governor of St Bridget’s Primary School, West Kirby, and a deputy Warden at St Bridget’s Church. He also serves as a member of the management committees of Westbourne and
Hoylake Community centres and West Kirby Youth Club.

Gerry campaigns on many local issues including the smells discharged by United Utilities at the Meols Water Treatment Plant. Also the grass on the beaches of Hoylake and West Kirby; speeding traffic on Meols Drive and the control of developers of excessively large blocks of flats in the Hoylake and West Kirby areas.

Gerry has a BA degree in economics and employment relations. Having previously practised as a personnel manager and college lecturer, he formed an employment relations and management training consultancy business in Liverpool in 1980.
