Somerset Road residents fight speeding motorists.
  29/12/06

Somerset Road residents fight speeding motorists using a notorious rat run in Pensby.

Residents told Councillor Jacquie McKelvie about problems with both the speed of traffic using Somerset Road and difficulties caused by the way that some drivers park.

Jacquie said “I have taken residents suggestions to council officers in the highways department. The officers tell me some of the options could make matters worse, or are not possible for other reasons. For example, making the road one-way could lead to an increase in traffic speed. I am also told that council do not think the road is a high enough priority for speed-humps or other calming measures, due to the lack of accidents that cause injury”.

It would seem the only option with any chance of being implemented would be to block the road off in the middle.
