David
Elderton has been a Councillor since 2000. Following boundary
changes, he now represents West Kirby and Thurstaston Ward.
He is Chairman of the Finance and Corporate Management Committee –
that monitors all income and expenditure relating to Council
activities.
David is also Conservative Spokesperson on the Planning Committee
and active in ensuring proper control of development. This role
includes pursuing conservation status for many areas of the borough
and
successfully defending appeals against refusal of inappropriate
development - with the overall objective of ensuring that Wirral
remains an attractive place for us all to live and work.
As member of the Regeneration committee, David is always on the look
out for grant aid and funding packages to initiate and allow
improvements to be made to Wirral as a whole.
On a more practical side he has been responsible for bringing local
agencies together to eliminate long-standing and persistent flooding
problems in many areas of West Kirby and Thurstaston Ward. He is
very active in seeking to maintain and improve the street scene by
initiating highway and pavements maintenance works and controlling
foliage and weed overgrowth. His latest campaign is aimed at
initiating improvements to the public areas and retail unit frontage
of West Kirby station.
David sits on PMC (Programme Monitoring Committee) that is
instrumental in monitoring spending of ‘Objective One’ monies
sourced from Europe, to improve depressed areas of Merseyside in
general and Wirral in particular.
His other community involvements are many and varied. These include
being Board members of Egerton House (creating business start up
opportunities) Wirral CVS, Wirral CAB and a Governor of Pensby School for Girls.
David is married to Barbara and lives in Meols. He has three grown
up children and several grandchildren. David is now a free lance
Commercial and Construction Consultant, having retired as Divisional
Director of AMEC, the international contracting and facilities
management group, where he was responsible for Business Development
and Construction activity in the North of England.
